Conservation and repair of 17th century roofs and chimneys.
Bramshill House, one of the largest Jacobean mansions in the country, was built in Italian Renaissance style in the early 17th century by Edward la Zouche. The house was designated a Grade I listed building in 1952. It was used by the Home Office as a Police Staff College between 1960 and its recent sale.
Re-roofing of church and masonry repairs.
St Marys Church, Batcombe is a Grade I listed church in Somerset dating to the 15th and 16th centuries. It is built of rubble, ashlar and dressed with local Doulting stone.
Extensive restoration of the Downside Abbey’s metal church roofs.
In preparation for the Abbey’s bicentenary we were commissioned to replace the pitched copper, lead and slate tile roofs of the Grade I listed Abbey Church, restoring them to their former glory. In addition, a fine stained glass windows was repaired and masonry cleaned.
Re-roofing the Victorian Gothic Pearson Cloister and South Range.
Exeter Cathedral is one of the nation’s finest example of decorated gothic architecture and receives 250,000 visitors each year. The circa 1887 Pearson Cloister, built on the site of an earlier medieval cloister, houses the Cathedral’s education facility.
Conservation and repair of the Belvedere Tower.
This elaborate 1883 Listed Grade II* French-style mansion has been the home of the RAF since 1918. In 2014 Ellis and Co competed a project to remove, restore and replace The Belvedere, a two story tower that sits proudly on the roof at the centre of the mansion.
Refurbishment of the historic Hospital of St Cross, Winchester
The medieval Hospital of St Cross was founded in the 1130’s and is considered England’s oldest and most perfect almshouse. Ellis and Co refurbished the kitchen wing to improve facilities for visitors.
Major conservation roofing programme for the National Trust.
Repair and redevelopment of the slate roofs, chimneys and windows of this 17thC stately home managed by the National Trust. Tredegar house is one of the finest examples of a Charles II home in the UK and has origins in the 1500s with the main building 1664 to 1672.
Roof conservation and repairs.
An impressive 12th Cathedral in the heart of the City of Wells. The western half of the north nave aisle roof is laid with lead and had suffered from severe water ingress. Between March and Oct 2015 Ellis and Co repaired the roofs under the instruction of Nick Cox Architects.
