The internal reordering project included alterations to the South Porch and the installation of a new glazed entrance lobby, glass cloister door, and glazed balustrades. We created a new welcome area with improved access throughout the Cathedral including access ramps and a platform lift. We created a new purpose-built shop on the North Nave side of the Cathedral with bespoke oak furniture. Extensive conservation took place with masonry and stained glass windows cleaned and repaired. Floors were relaid. A full M&E package included installation of lighting and under floor heating.

This project included a strong element of public engagement about the works with fundraising, tours and social media. The busy Cathedral remained open during the works so the programming included timing key aspects, particularly of the lift installation, around Holy Week celebrations. Access routes were carefully managed to enable the Cathedral to stay safely open and accessible to visitors throughout the major works.  The £1.6m project took place between January and November 2017 with instruction from St Anns Gate architects.
