William Stansell Building Award Wins for Ellis and Co

Ellis and Co scooped a commodation and one of six winning awards in the 2018 William Stansell Awards announced at the Rural Life Museum in Somerset. The awards, administer by the Somerset Building Preservation Trust, are named after the late William Stansell, founder of the Stansell Group, whose great love was the conservation and repair of historic buildings. The awards are designed to recognise and celebrate high standards of design and craftsmanship in the alteration, conversion, or repair of historic buildings in the county of Somerset. Ellis and Co are delighted to have received this award and commendation for two historic building projects we have completed in Somerset this year.

St Mary’s Church, Bridgwater - COMMENDATION

"This interior re-ordering project involved the removal of pews, re-laying the floor on a single level, new lighting and addition of kitchen and storage facilities in order to develop the use of this large church. The beautiful new floor, the imaginative lighting and the clever movable pews are particularly successful".

The Rib, Wells - AWARD

"The project involved repair, conservation and re-ordering of a complex and architecturally significant house with some new uses carefully inserted into existing fabric. A combination of excellent materials, workmanship and finishes with a good understanding of the building and what was needed without doing too much has resulted in a functional and beautiful set of interiors".
