Time capsule saved in Leigh on Mendip Church Roof

The major roof rennovations underway at St Giles Church, Leigh on Mendip provided an opportunity for local pupils at Leigh on Mendip First School to consider the passage of time and leave a secret record for future generations. Pupil's chose and stored memorabilia, stories and pictures representing current times in a time capsule which our Site Manager, Blake Brockway, stored in the newly repaired roof. The roof has been significantly rennovated by Ellis and Company under instruction from Beech Tyldesly Archtects. It including renewing structural timbers and conserving as many of the original ornamental details as possible. It is hoped that the time casule in the new church roof will be in place for at least the next 150 years. Future generations will discover and receive this gift of time from the school students. The Mendip Times have featured this in their July edition.
