Ellis and Company will be onsite repairing the Old Staircase at the National Trusts' Dyrham Park. This redecoration project aims to restore the beautiful walnut timber timberwork in the Old Staircase which was designed and built in the 1690s.
Paints applied in the 20th Century will be removed and the stairs and panelling repatinated and waxed to reveal the underlying walnut finish which was originally intended for this grand staircase.
The staircase area including walls, windows and shutters and radiators will be redecorated and the frame of the painting Allegory of the Arts by Andrea Casili will be regilded.
This is part of the National Trust's plans to reinstate 17th Century elements to the property creating an improved experience for visitors to this historic country house and gardens.
Ellis and Company will be on site between now and September 2019. We'll publish updates as we go and the property is remaining open to visitors during the work.
